Atlantic City Man Sentenced to Prison
An Atlantic City man is headed to prison on two separate indictments.
After pleading guilty to committing second-degree aggravated assault and second-degree certain persons not to possess weapons, on Monday, 26-year-old Ibn Demps was sentenced to an aggregate term of eight years behind bars.
2022 Shooting in Atlantic City
On the afternoon of September 21st, 2022, officers with the Atlantic City Police Department responded to the area of 154 N. South Carolina Avenue, where they found someone who had been shot in the abdomen.
The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office says a review of surveillance video led police to identify Demps as the shooter.
Surveillance video showed Demps playing dice with a group of men in the courtyard area of a housing complex before pulling out a handgun and shooting the victim at near point-blank range in the stomach area.
Demps was apprehended by police on December 9th, 2022, inside the same home where surveillance video recorded him fleeing into after the shooting, and a gun was located.
The New Jersey State Police ballistics laboratory subsequently confirmed that the recovered handgun had been used to shoot the victim.
Additional Weapons Offense
Demps also pleaded guilty to shooting a gun at a local gun range in November 2022.
Authorities say he lied on a registration form by denying he was a convicted felon. Police determined that Demps had gone to the gun range after viewing cellphone videos, which were recovered during the shooting investigation.
