Barnegat man receives 5-year sentence for fatal hit-and-run
A Barnegat man is being sentenced to five-years in prison for leaving the scene of an accident where the pedestrian he hit passed away.
Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer announced Friday that Craig Menth, 28, was sentenced in connection with his previously entered guilty plea to Knowingly Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident Resulting in Death.
Menth pled guilty to the offense on January 27, 2020.
The accident took place on September 1, 2019, and it was Brick Police who responded to Drum Point Road for a report of a hit-and-run motor vehicle incident.
Officers found that a pedestrian, Robert Berenger, 28, of Brick, had been fatally struck by a motor vehicle which had already fled the scene.
Brick Police worked with the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Vehicular Homicide Unit and they identified Menth as the driver and owner of the vehicle that struck and killed Berenger.
Menth was arrested without incident at his residence in Barnegat on September 2, 2019.
