Bicyclist Killed on Route 40 in Mays Landing

A 61-year-old Mays Landing resident who was riding his bicycle on Route 40 was killed early Tuesday morning.

Hamilton Township Police say 61-year-old Michael Daregentile of Mays Landing was riding his bike on the eastbound side of Route 40 near New York Avenue and was struck by a car being driven by 25-year-old Matthew Bramble of Newfield just after 6:00 Tuesday morning. Daregentile, who police say was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene; Bramble was not injured.

Police and the State Medical Examiner's Office continue to investigate the accident.
