Big Change Today at the Egg Harbor Township, NJ, Police Department
A big change of leadership is set to take place today within the Egg Harbor Township Police Department.
EHT Police Chief Michael Steinman will be retiring today and Capt. Michael Hughes will be promoted to the rank of Chief of Police.
In a statement posted to Facebook, officials say,
Chief Steinman will be retiring after over 31 years of service to the citizens of Egg Harbor Township. During his career, he has served in the Patrol Division, Detective Bureau, Services Bureau, K-9, The Atlantic County Emergency Response Team, and numerous other areas within the police department. The members of the Egg Harbor Township Police Department want to thank Chief Steinman for his years of service and wish him well in all of his future endeavors.
Taking over as police chief in one of the largest municipalities in South Jersey, Hughes, a life-long resident of the township, has over three decades of service to the citizens of EHT. He has served in the patrol division, the detective bureau, and with the Atlantic County Emergency Response Team, just to name a few.
Hughes will officially be sworn in as chief of police at a ceremony scheduled for 3:00 this afternoon at the EHT municipal courtroom.
