Authorities in Cumberland County have now charged a man from Newfield with DWI in connection to a fiery crash in Vineland last month.

44-year-old Brian Sheared has been charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, failure to make an address change, uninsured motorist, failure to install an ignition interlock device, operating a vehicle while unlicensed, and touring privilege violation.

It was at around 1:30 AM on May 19th when officers with the Vineland Police Department responded to the area of North Delsea Drive and West Garden Road for a report of a vehicle hitting a building and bursting into flames.

Police say their investigation revealed Sheared was driving a 2018 Dodge Ram pickup northbound on Delsea Drive, "where for an unknown reason his vehicle ran off the road to the right striking a guardrail while still continuing northbound, reentering the roadway, and striking a traffic light standard at the intersection with West Garden Road."

From there, the truck then crossed over the intersection and into AG Auto Group at 2332 N. Delsea Drive where the vehicle caught fire and, as a result, fully engulfed the business.

Following the crash, Sheared was pulled from the vehicle by a good Samaritan and taken to an area hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
