Brigantine School Aids Food Bank of New Jersey With Students Change Hunger

The National Junior Honor Society at Brigantine Community School is one of a number of local school groups that are working with the Community Food Bank of New Jersey on a project called, "Students Change Hunger."

According to the Community Food Bank, hunger is a problem that hits New Jersey hard, especially South Jersey.

1 in 11 people in New Jersey struggle with hunger - and the numbers are even higher in the South Jersey counties of Atlantic, Cape May, and Cumberland.

1 in 6 South Jersey kids is "food insecure." That's nearly 19,000 kids in the three-county area.

Students Change Hunger is happening in local schools now through January 14th. It's a statewide food and fund drive competition for schools from pre-school through college. The schools compete to raise the most food and funds to help neighbors in need.

The group at Brigantine Community School is hosting a food drive during the holiday season.  Students are collecting the most needed food items at school and at businesses throughout the community. They're also spreading awareness by creating outreach messages throughout the school and community, and social media. Their messages are also being carried on several Townsquare Media Atlantic City radio stations.
