Camden Man Convicted in Child Sex Abuse Case After Trial

Camden, N.J. — A Camden man has been convicted of sexually abusing two young girls in his household for nearly a decade, beginning when the younger victim was just five years old.

Earlier this week, 41-year-old Miguel A. Mota was found guilty on 14 counts following a four-week-long jury trial.

Nearly a Decade of Abuse

The Camden County Prosecutor's Office said an investigation began in April 2020 when Camden County Police learned of the abuse from one of the victims. Detectives determined that Mota had sexually abused her on various dates between November 2010 and April 2020, from the time she was 7 years old until she was 16. He was initially charged on April 8th, 2020.

In July 2024, a second victim came forward. Investigators determined Mota had also abused her between December 2010 and April 2020, beginning when she was just 5 and continuing until she was 14. Additional charges were filed July 30th of that year.

Both victims testified at trial.

Conviction

Mota was convicted of four counts of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, three counts of second-degree sexual assault, three counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, two counts of third-degree aggravated sexual contact, one count of third-degree terroristic threats, and one count of fourth-degree criminal sexual contact.

He was immediately remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility. Sentencing is scheduled for September 25th.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant Prosecutors Anna Trenga and Roxanna Garcia and investigated by the Camden County Police Department and the Camden County Prosecutor's Office Trial Team Unit.
