For Atlantic City, NJ Mayor: Political Survival Requires 3 Steps

Atlantic City, New Jersey Mayor Marty Small is trying to thread the political needle. He is presently facing significant headwinds.

The List Of Criminal Charges That Marty Small Faces Is Long, Including:

second-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
third-degree Terroristic Threats.
third-degree Aggravated Assault.
A second Atlantic County Grand Jury indicted Marty Small for alleged witness tampering.

Marty Small’s wife, La’Quetta has also been indicted for second-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Said:

It is alleged that during the months of December 2023 and January 2024, the defendants physically and emotionally abused their 15/16-year-old-daughter on multiple occasions. During one incident, on January 13, 2024, Marty Small, Sr. is alleged to have hit his daughter multiple times in the head with a broom causing her to lose consciousness, said the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.

Marty Small Has To Successfully Complete 3 Steps In Order To Remain In Power

It won’t be easy, however, thus far — Marty Small is on track.

Step 1

Marty Small had to win a competitive Democrat Primary Election versus Bob McDevitt.

Small prevailed by a comfortable margin, despite facing multiple criminal indictments, as outlined above.

Step 2

Marty Small will have to defeat Naeem Khan in the General Election on November 4, 2025.

Nine days of early, in-person voting is currently under way.

Step 3

Marty Small has to run the table and win a Not Guilty, or, a Hung Jury verdict at his fast-approaching criminal trial.

Marty Small’s trial will begin shortly after the General Election, on December 1, 2025.

La’Quetta Small will have a separate criminal trial, which is set to begin on January 12, 2026.

Marty Small Was Offered A Plea Deal

The deal would have guaranteed that Marty Small would avoid jail time.

Marty Small declined the offer. The plea deal would have required Small to resign his position as Mayor of Atlantic City. Small also would have been ineligible to hold public employment or elective office for life.
