Candidate for Gov. Will Skip Atlantic City Summit – Insults Chairman [Opinion]
It is one of the strangest campaigns ever waged by a Republican candidate for Governor of New Jersey.
The latest development in the campaign of candidate Bill Spadea is that he has decided to skip the upcoming Statewide GOP Summit in Atlantic City, New Jersey on March 21 & 22, 2025.
Not only is Spadea skipping the GOP Summit, he took to his social media page and went out of his way to trash Bob Hugin, the New Jersey Republican Party Chairman … as well as the entire state Republican Party.
To utilize a famous (past) quote from Jack Ciattarelli … “Who Does that”?
The Spadea campaign wrote:
“We’re skipping the insider mutual admiration event,” Spadea’s campaign (in his social media post). “We’ll continue to spend our resources on going right to the voters. Not wasting any on [N.J. GOP chair] Bob Hugin’s ego party.”
The Spadea strategy is incoherent. How could he expect to be a viable Republican Nominee, while criticizing the Chairman of his own political Party, and, the Republican Party as a whole?
Previous to his public insults directed to Chairman Hugin, Spadea announced that he would not be attending any of the County Conventions.
The one Spadea exception is Ocean County … only because there is a previous rift between GOP front runner Jack Ciattarelli and George Gilmore, the Chairman and Ocean County potentate that has spilled-over to this campaign.
Hugin is a credible leader, who previously ran a solid campaign for the United States Senate … Hugin is a prodigious fundraiser and he has a lot to offer all Republican candidates in New Jersey.
I have attended and participated on panels multiple times at the Statewide GOP Summit. It is an outstanding conference and the serious and respectful candidates for Governor will be attending.
Republican Gubernatorial candidates Jack Ciattarelli, State Senator Jon Bramnick (R-Westfield), former State Senator Ed Durr, and former Englewood Cliffs Mayor Mario Kranjac will all be attending and participating at the upcoming Statewide GOP Summit in Atlantic City.
NOTE: Vivek Ramaswamy will be speaking at the Statewide GOP Summit in Atlantic City on Friday, March 21, 2025 at the NJGOP Victory Welcome Reception at Caesars Atlantic City.
Ramaswamy was a 2024 candidate for President of The United States and recently announced that he is running for Governor of Ohio.
Bon appétit.
