A Stone Harbor, New Jersey restaurant took to social media to help their competition avoid a scam that cost them hard-earned dollars.

Back Bay Seafood was presented with a counterfeit $ 100 bill that the perpetrator got away with negotiating at their restaurant.

Back Bay Seafood confirmed on their social media that the customer got their food for free and even received $ 40 cash back in this transaction.

While closing last night, we realized an employee was handed a counterfeit $100 bill during our crazy dinner rush. In return, the scammer got over $60 in food free & $40 change. In our 21 years of operation, we've never encountered something like this. It's quite surprising, especially in a town like Stone Harbor. As a result of this experience, I've realized that I need to do a better job training our newer employees on how to identify counterfeit bills, especially larger ones. Obviously you can tell from the pics that the bill is fake but it can be easy to miss when you're busy or distracted. Yes, we got scammed & it's frustrating. But at the end of the day, I like to think that if someone felt the need to do this, they probably needed it more than we did. While this is disappointing, hopefully this helps another small business avoid the same situation.

You can see that the fake currency says “For Motion Picture Purposes.”

However, in the busy, hustle bustle of restaurant life, something like this can slip by … when the currency looked and felt good enough to get by the watchful eye and touch of a new employee.
