Duo Arrested After Fleeing from Atlantic City Cops in Stolen Car
A man and a woman from South Jersey, each with warrants, were arrested after fleeing from Atlantic City police in a stolen vehicle Sunday night.
According to the Atlantic City Police Department, Ofc. Joseph Kelly attempted to stop a car that had been reported stolen in Atlantic City Sunday night around 9:00. As the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver, 49-year-old Jason Sandfort of Elwood, sped away.
Police say Sandfort crashed into a parked car in the 100 north block of Florida Avenue. He immediately jumped out of the car and ran with Ofc. Kelly chasing him. Sandfort was apprehended after a short chase and he was taken into custody after resisting arrest.
A woman in the vehicle, 30-year-old Samantha Buglioli of Little Egg Harbor, was arrested by responding officers. According to authorities, Buglioli initially provided officers with false information but she was later identified through fingerprinting.
Buglioli and Sandfort were each found to have active warrants for their arrest. During the investigation, officers recovered small amounts of heroin and methamphetamine, three types of prescription medication, and narcotic paraphernalia.
Sandfort was charged with theft, eluding, receiving stolen property, obstruction of justice, resist arrest, possession of narcotic paraphernalia, contempt of court, and two counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS) and multiple motor vehicle summons.
Buglioli was charged with receiving stolen property, possession of CDS, possession of narcotic paraphernalia, hinder apprehension, contempt of court, and three counts of possession of a prescription drug.
Both were remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
