Eagles Options at Wide Receiver are Limited

With DeSean Jackson's season ending injury, the Eagles wide receiver group needs help.  The team is working out former second-round pick Jordan Matthews, who is familiar with the team and the offense, but there are other options out there.

The Eagles are down Jackson for the rest of the regular season while Alshon Jeffery and Nelson Agholor have had issues with drops.  Prior to skipping out for their bye week, Eagles head coach Doug Pederson challenged the tandem to step their game up for the stretch run.

"I think overall, they have been good, but I would say they haven't been great. I think they would echo that," Pederson said about his top two pass catchers.

Mack Hollins and rookie J.J. Arcega-Whiteside have barely made an impact, neither has had a catch since September.

"I think I mentioned last week that, even in Mack's case, when you're the sixth, possibly seventh guy in the progression or in the scheme of things, sometimes it's hard to get the ball going in that direction," Pederson explained when asked why those two lacked production. "We go in thinking the Alshon’s and DeSean’s and Nelly’s and the tight ends, backs and stuff like that, and we ask a lot of those other guys, too, in the run game and they do some great things there."

"The ball is going to find, usually, the open guy, and find the completion that way, and we just have to continue to work."

Now, more than ever, the Eagles really need to find the production that has been missing since the season opener when Jackson caught eight balls, for 154 yards and two touchdowns against Washington.

What Jackson did in the opener has been missing ever since, and the Eagles have struggled to find a deep-threat, who can stretch-the-field.

One name the Eagles should kick the tires on his former Seattle fourth-round pick Gary Jennings, who was released on Tuesday. The 6-foot-1, 216-pound rookie is just 22-years old and possess 4.42 speed in the 40 coming out of West Virginia.

If the Eagles want to go the veteran route, a couple of names that are still available include Dez Bryant, Michael Crabtree, Michael Floyd, Terrelle Pryor, and J.J. Nelson to name a few.

Nothing to exciting there.

Another name that will come up is Antonio Brown, who was traded to Oakland this offseason, then released by the Raiders and picked up by New England. He played one game with the Patriots, before the released him following rape and sexual assault accusations.

Consider it extremely doubtful that the Eagles would consider Brown.
