PHILADELPHIA - There is no need to wait for the Friday injury report when it comes to DeSean Jackson.

Doug Pederson ruled out the speedy receiver for Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions citing an abdominal issue. Independent reports have Jackson missing the next two games and trying to return for a Week 5 game against the New York Jets with what has been described as a slight tear in the abdomen.

“DeSean will be out of this game,” Pederson admitted at his Friday morning press conference before practice.

ESPN reported that one doctor even recommended surgery for Jackson but the 32-year-old receiver would like to return as soon as possible.

The news was a little better for receiver Alshon Jeffery and tight end Dallas Goedert, who are both dealing with calf injuries.

“I’m still optimistic,” Pederson claimed. “We’ll see today and then obviously wait until game day.”

Pederson might be attempting to play a competitive-advantage card there as few expect that either Jeffery or Goedert will play against Detroit especially with a short week after with a visit to Green Bay on the docket for Sept. 26.

Both Jeffery and Goedert had not yet practiced this week after suffering injuries last Sunday, with Goedert’s coming during pre-game warmups and Jeffery after just six snaps.

Goedert did have his helmet at the small portion of Friday's practice open to the media, which is essentially just stretching. Jeffery was not on the field.
