The Eagles released veteran wide receiver Jordan Matthews on Monday, news that was first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

A former second-round pick, the 27-year-old Matthews came to Philadelphia for the third time two weeks ago when injuries started to cripple the Eagles receiving core.

In three games this season, Matthews had four receptions on 12 targets for 33 yards.

With the Eagles releasing Matthews, its a good sign that Alshon Jeffery and Nelson Agholor, or at least one of them, will be ready to return for the game in Miami.

Coach Doug Pederson was asked about Matthews role on Wednesday, and he acknowledged that Matthews play wasn't great.

"He did some good things and he did some not-so-good things," Pederson said after the Eagles loss to New England. " When he looks at the tape too, he knows he has to play better. Listen, he's only been here for a week, so he'll make the corrections and he’ll be better this week for it."

"It's been a good addition to have someone of his caliber, a veteran player, to really step in and fill in where we need it."

His play, coupled with the play of Greg Ward, sealed Matthews fate.

It was the third different stint for Matthews with the Eagles, and was his third NFL team.
