A bridge in the Penny Pot section of Folsom is going to be closed for the next several months due to structural issues.

Officials with Atlantic County report that beginning today (Tuesday, April 13th), the Eighth Street Bridge over the Penny Pot Stream in Folsom will be closed after an inspection revealed, "extensive damage to the superstructure of the bridge." Officials say the damage is so bad that the bridge will need to be replaced.

The bridge is located between the Atlantic City Expressway and Mays Landing-Blue Anchor Road (which is right off of the Black Horse Pike). The route is a straight run between the eastern parts of Hammonton and Route 322.

A full detour for Eighth Street will be in effect. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes and plan travel time accordingly.

This bridge closure comes as work continues on a span over Gravelly Run on New York Avenue in Hamilton Township between Route 40 and West Jersey Avenue. In that case, that bridge was also closed due to structural damage. Officials say the design phase of that project will take several months and construction will begin in the fall.
