Election 2021: Handmade Political Sign in Egg Harbor Twp., NJ, Combines Murphy, Pizza, and Satan

As Election Day nears, some political signs are getting a bit more, shall we say, 'colorful.'

For example, as I was driving to work Friday morning, I noticed something taped to the giant traffic camera pole at English Creek Avenue and the Black Horse Pike in Egg Harbor Township.

It reads, "Gov Murphy eats [pizza] + [hot dog]'s with Podesta," complete with a couple of satanic symbols.

As someone who sorta-kinda follows politics, I had to do a little bit of Googling to figure out what, exactly, this was referring to, having not heard anything recently about Murphy, Satan, popular snack foods that are enjoyed by many, and Podesta.

The best that I could come up with is this article from WNYC/New York from five years ago, which says,

Hacked emails released by Wikileaks from the account of Hillary Clinton campaign Chairman John Podesta were a controversial topic in the third and final presidential debate. But the inner workings of Clinton's campaign aren't the only ones on display in the emails. They also give a peek into the campaign of Phil Murphy, the only Democratic candidate to have announced a run for governor of New Jersey in 2017, and the race's perceived front-runner.

The good news is all of this political stuff will be behind us in just a few days. Early voting continues through this weekend here in New Jersey and Election Day itself is still next Tuesday.
