Fire Dept. Leader, a ‘Variation of Project 2025’ in Atlantic City
Atlantic City Fire Department Union President John Varallo, Jr. took to his social media Facebook Page to directly compare the so-called “Project 2025” with what has happened within the Atlantic City Fire Department.
“Project 2025” has been much maligned at the national level during the 2024 Presidential and Congressional election campaign.
Varallo has called what has happened in Atlantic City as a “variation of Project 2025” as follows:
I see a lot of posts related to Project 2025. Some of you are very concerned. If you want to see a variation of project 2025 in real time take a moment to examine the takeover of Atlantic City in 2016. Feel free to give me a call and I can walk through the labor atrocities over the last 8 years. The "takeover bill" or MSRA 1711 was supported, voted, and passed by the New Jersey Senate and Assembly were democratics hold an overwhelming majority. The bill was delivered to Gov Christie's desk by those who are suppose to support organized labor. The bill eliminated workers rights, workers protections, terminated contracts, dissolved the authority of local government and some other really evil stuff. Hypocrisy at its finest, wrote Varallo.
Atlantic City Councilman George Tibbitt wrote the following in the comments section of Varallo’s post:
Both Democrats and Republicans robbed the workers that they claim to love. Stole from the pension and over 10000.00 out of their pay for medical, wrote Tibbitt.
It is disgraceful what Chris Christie did to the Atlantic City Fire Department. It will take many years for them to recover from the damage.
In some ways, the Christie cuts were so unwarranted and draconian, that they may never recover from them.
