Greatest News Anchor In Philadelphia, NJ History Left 2 Years Ago
The greatest news anchor in Philadelphia and New Jersey history has just celebrated a birthday … his 76th … and, it’s already been two years since he left his perch as the best of all time in the Delaware Valley.
Officially, Jim Gardner left his position as anchorman on 6ABC Action News at 11:00 p.m. on January 11, 2022.
Gardner continued as the 6:00 p.m. news anchor until his final on-air broadcast on December 21, 2022.
Gardner possessed one of the most important quality characteristic traits in media … the like ability factor.
Gardner had this important quotient in abundance, coupled with a highly polished, credible, professional style that made his broadcast national caliber at all times.
There has been a running joke about the above photo of Jim Gardner and myself … that we are doing “The Anchorman Pose.”
It’s really “The Fig Leaf Pose,” which is considered to be one of modestly. It’s also called the “Fig Leaf Presenting Positiion.”
I have found it interesting that we each did this instinctively. I didn’t realize Jim also did this until actually seeing the photo.
Not to get too deep into “The Fig Leaf Pose,” however, this presenting position is described by some that it can lower others' perception of your credibility.
I strongly disagree with this description. My belief is that when you’re posing with another … you should never attempt to outshine the other(s) in the photo.
I’m in the great of company with Jim Gardner in this regard.
Happy Birthday to “The G.O.A.T.”
Jim Gardner is a Philadelphia legend and icon.
You are truly missed on-air.
