South Jersey Man Convicted of Murdering Both Parents in Their Home

Bridgeton, N.J. — A Cumberland County jury has convicted a Hopewell Township man of murdering both of his parents, finding him guilty on eight counts this past Wednesday after a month-long trial.

37-year-old Craig Williams was found guilty July 2nd of two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of his mother, Brenda Williams, and his father, Billy Williams, Jr.

Bodies Hidden for Days

According to the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office, on March 13th, 2023, New Jersey state troopers responded to 11 Tipton Drive in Hopewell Township for a well-being check after family members said they hadn't heard from Brenda or Billy Williams, Jr., in a few days.

Troopers entered the home and found both victims dead: Brenda Williams in the primary bedroom, Billy Williams, Jr., in a bathroom. Both had been stabbed numerous times.

Evidence Tossed, Cameras Removed

After the murders, prosecutors say Williams attempted to cover his tracks. Evidence presented at trial showed he threw away, or tried to, bloody clothing, gloves, shoes, and towels. He also removed a surveillance camera from the property and disposed of the victims' cell phones.

Conviction and What He Faces

In addition to the two murder counts, Williams was also convicted of two counts of third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, third-degree tampering with physical evidence, third-degree hindering apprehension, and fourth-degree obstruction.

For each murder conviction, Williams faces 30 years to life in prison. The remaining charges carry additional prison time.

The case was investigated by the New Jersey State Police and the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office. Assistant Prosecutor Holly Fanelle represented the State. Williams was represented by Zachary Sclar, Esq., and Alexander Varghese, Esq.

Sentencing is scheduled for August 28th.
