Somers Point School Aide Indicted in Child Sex Case

A Somers Point man who worked as a pre-kindergarten teacher’s aide at the Woodbine Elementary School has been indicted for committing sexual acts with multiple children under the age of 13 between 2014 and 2025.

A grand jury indicted Shaun Stebbins, 44, of Somers Point, on the charges in late June, according to NJ.com.

He also created and possessed child sexual abuse material, according to the charges.

Stebbins was arrested in March and charged with first-degree aggravated sexual assault of a victim younger than 13 and permitting a child to engage in pornography.

Suspect Was School District Paraprofessional of the Year

Stebbins was honored two years ago by the Woodbine Elementary School for his professionalism, but is now charged with molesting at least four minors over more than a decade.

Following his arrest, Stebbins, who was employed through ESS, a staffing company that provides personnel to schools, was removed from his position at the Cape May County school.

According to an affidavit, three adults reported abuse when they were minors as far back as 2012, and none were students.

Breaking AC reported that the victims are all related to Stebbins. Three of the four are now adults.

A now 14-year-old said that when he was 5 in 2014, he was shown pornographic videos in Stebbins' bedroom. The teen said the sexual assaults on him were recorded, officials said.

A now-adult woman said Stebbins watched her as she showered through a hole in the floor, officials said.

There is no statute of limitations on reporting sexual abuse in New Jersey.

Stebbins Next Court Date

Stebbins is expected to enter a plea when he is arraigned on Wednesday, July 29th.

Reporting at the time of his arrest said that none of the victims were students at the school where Stebbins worked. But Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland said that authorities were looking into that possibility.

“The Cape May County investigation is ongoing, and law enforcement are working diligently to gather all relevant information to ensure a thorough investigation is completed regarding any allegations of abuse...actively investigating reports of alleged abuse that may have occurred at the Woodbine School District”, the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement.
