Phillies Acquire Luis Arráez, Brooks Raley, and Caleb Kilian at MLB Trade Deadline

Today is the Major League Baseball trade deadline, and the Phillies have made a pair of moves to try to improve their club.

Infield Realignment: Adding Batting Champ Luis Arráez

The team acquired second baseman Luis Arráez and right-handed pitcher Caleb Kilian from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for minor league right-handed pitchers Ramon Marquez and Marty Gair.

What It Cost: Phillies Prospect Package

Marquez, 20, is the No. 4-ranked prospect in the Phillies system and was pitching at high-A Jersey Shore at the time of the deal.  Between two levels this season, low-A Clearwater and Jersey Shore, he is 6-1 with a 1.68 ERA, 0.814 WHIP with 93 strikeouts in 59 innings pitched.

Positional Dominoes: Stott, Bohm, and Harper

Arráez, who has played second base this season for the Giants, will likely play that position in Philadelphia with Bryson Stott moving to third.  Alec Bohm will likely move over to first base, and Bryce Harper is moving back to right field, according to Matt Gelb of The Athletic.

Arráez is a three-time batting champion and currently leads the National League with a.324 batting average, has a .360 on-base percentage, and has struck out just 21 times all season.

Bullpen Boost: Adding Lefty Brooks Raley & Caleb Kilian

Kilian, 29, has pitched in some high-leverage situations for the Giants this season.  The right-hander has notched eight saves in 45 games this year, and is 3-6 with a 4.26 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, and 53 strikeouts in 44.1 innings pitched.

Bullpen Boost: Adding Lefty Brooks Raley

The Phillies also added former Mets lefty Brooks Raley in exchange for minor league right-handed pitcher Luke Gabrysh and minor league outfielder John Spikerman. This season, Raley has gone 5-5 with a 1.96 ERA (9 ER, 41.1 IP), 40 strikeouts to 15 walks and a 1.09 WHIP in 45 relief appearances with the Mets.

The MLB trade deadline is today at 6 p.m.
