In an official signing ceremony that took place on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, The Dr. Harvey Kesselman Legacy Scholarship has been officially established at Stockton University.

In attendance were:

  • Dr. Harvey Kesselman, President of Stockton University.

  • Nikki Strothers, Associate Director of Records & Stewardship, Stockton University.

The Hurley in the Morning Charity Foundation reached out to Stockton University and proposed the idea of a scholarship program in the name of Dr. Kesselman with a two-fold purpose in mind.

  1. Write important annual grants to help students achieve their dream of a college degree.
  2. Properly acknowledge Dr. Kesselman’s career at Stockton University, which has spanned more than 50 years (beginning) as a student, followed by his serving in positions of increasing responsibility at Stockton University.

The Hurley in the Morning Charity Foundation presented an initial $2,500 grant yesterday to begin what will continue in perpetuity.

Kesselman was a member of the inaugural class at the then Stockton State College in 1971.

Kesselman, 71, is the first Stockton alumnus to ever become its President.

In more than four-plus decades of honorable service, Kesselman has never left Stockton from his first day as a student to this day, while holding every leadership position in every major division in the school's history, including:

  • President
  • Acting President
  • Provost
  • Executive Vice President
  • Interim Vice President for Administration and Finance
  • Vice President for Student Affairs
  • Dean of the School of Education

Kesselman is also undeniably the most accomplished ambassador of Stockton University.

“When I entered Stockton at its opening way back in 1971 at the Mayflower Hotel in Atlantic City, the thought that I would eventually become its president was beyond anything I could imagine or even contemplate,” said Kesselman.

”Yet, it happened, and I am the luckiest person in the world as a result of that,” said Kesselman.

Kesselman is the 5th President in Stockton University history.

Kesselman has always demonstrated excellent judgment and knows that the time to leave as the full-time President is about 7 months away.

"I have always said George Washington got it right: eight years as president and then pass the baton to the next generation,” said Kesselman.

On June 30, 2023, Kesselman will officially become President Emeritus and Professor of Education at Stockton University.

Back on July 20, 2022, we broke the news that Kesselman would retire after giving one full year’s advanced notice, in order to ensure proper planning to select his successor.
