A couple has been charged in Brigantine for allegedly leaving two young children home alone while they may have been out drinking.

Citizen Alerts Brigantine Police

The scene unfolded around 8:45 Sunday night when a concerned citizen flagged down a Brigantine police officer to advise him of the situation.

Several officers then visited a home on the 4900 Block of Harbor Beach Blvd. where they found an 8-year-old and a 1-year-old alone inside.

Parents Not Home

The department then said,

Officers contacted the parents of the children and learned they were not home, nor were they nearby at the time. Officers requested that the parents return home, and when they did they both showed signs of impairment due to alcoholic beverage consumption.

2 from NY Charged

43-year-old Felix Y. Rodriguez and 38-year-old Lydia Monterrosa, both of Jersey City, NJ, were arrested and charged on a summons with endangering the welfare of a child.

They were released with a court date to appear in Atlantic County Superior Court.

EDITOR'S NOTE: An original release from the Brigantine Police Department indicated the couple was from Jersey City, New York, instead of New Jersey, which they have corrected and so have we.

The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
