Mainland Regional High School alum Chase Petty is back in the majors.

Petty made his Major League debut back on April 30 against the St. Louis Cardinals, tossing 2.1 innings, striking out three.

The right-hander made his next start for Triple-A Louisville, and struck out eight over six scoreless innings on Tuesday (May 6).

Now Petty is back with the Reds, replacing ace Hunter Greene, who is sidelined by a groin injury.

He is scheduled to make his next big league start on Sunday (May 11) against the Houston Astros and it seems likely he will be heading back to Triple-A after the start.

Petty, considered one of the Reds' top pitching prospects, has impressed scouts with a high-velocity fastball and improving secondary pitches. He gave fans a glimpse of what Cincinnati hopes will be a top of the rotation arm during Spring Training in a Cactus League start against the Dodgers.

Petty was a first-round pick, No. 26, of the Minnesota Twins in the 2021 MLB Draft and was later traded to the Reds in exchange for Sonny Gray in March of 2022.

While at Mainland, Petty's dominating fastball caught the attention of scouts, who routinely lined up behind the plate during his starts.

He went 6-1 with an ERA of 1.00, striking out 99 batters in 48.2 innings pitched as a senior for the Mustangs, being named New Jersey's Gatorade Player of the Year.
