A California resident was arrested for allegedly stealing more than $75,000 from his deceased sister’s estate. The money was entrusted to him to care for her orphaned children living in Ocean City, officials said.

Michael DeLeon, 46, of Oceanside, California, allegedly stole the money between 2007 and 2014 from the estate of his sister, Elizabeth Warrington, according to the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office.

On May 10, the Prosecutor’s Office obtained an arrest warrant charging DeLeon with second-degree theft, for which he could face up to 10 years in state prison if found guilty. He was taken into custody without bail on May 18 by police in California.

DeLeon is currently awaiting extradition back to Cape May County.
