Authorities in Wildwood Crest say a man died on the beach Tuesday morning.

According to the Wildwood Crest Police Department, which has not yet released many details, officers were called to the beach at Myrtle Road at about 6:20 for a report of an unconscious and unresponsive man.

A person who called the police was performing CPR on the man, however, life-saving measures were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Cape May County Prosecutors's Office along with the New Jersey Southern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office responded to assist with the investigation. A short time later, notification was made to the next of kin.

Police say there is no indication of foul play and there is no threat to the public. The cause of death is pending an autopsy.
