Man Who Fled LBI Arrested in Virginia on Sexual Assault Charge

A man has been arrested in Virginia after being wanted in connection to a sexual assault of a juvenile charge in Ship Bottom.

Ship Bottom Police say that on September 2nd, a woman had reported that a juvenile female had been sexually assaulted by a male family member.

An investigation led police to search for Lester Antonio Matamoros Garcia, 32. It was soon discovered that Garcia fled the area.

Police say Garcia was later located, taken into custody and interviewed by the Fairfax County Police Department in Springfield, VA. Police say he said "that he had fled New Jersey because he knew the police were looking for him."

Garcia has been charged with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, and endangering the welfare of a child. He's currently awaiting extradition back to New Jersey.
