Barnegat Township Man Charged With Murdering His Wife
Barnegat Township, N.J. — A 67-year-old Barnegat Township man has been charged with murdering his wife after officers responding to a domestic violence call found her dead on the floor and him seated in a chair with a knife in his chest.
William Garvin was charged with the murder of his wife, 69-year-old Eileen Garvin, and served with a complaint-warrant at the hospital.
He is currently listed in stable condition at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City. Upon his release, he will be transported to the Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing.
What Officers Allegedly Found
According to the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, Barnegat Township Police were called to a residence on Windward Drive around 6:30 PM Monday for a report of a domestic violence incident.
Officers entered the home and found William Garvin seated in a chair with a knife protruding from his chest. Eileen Garvin was found lying on the floor. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say they determined that William Garvin was responsible for his wife's death and that his knife wound was self-inflicted.
Investigation Continues
The investigation is being conducted by the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit, Barnegat Township Police Department, and Ocean County Sheriff's Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, with assistance from the Ocean County Medical Examiner's Office.
The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
