11-Year-Old Girl Killed in Berkeley Township E-Dirt Bike Crash

Berkeley Township, N.J. — An 11-year-old girl is dead after authorities said the electric dirt bike she was riding as a passenger ran a stop sign and struck a pickup truck in Ocean County Wednesday afternoon.

The crash happened at the intersection of Sherman and Moorage Avenues in Berkeley Township around 12:45 PM.

An 11-year-old boy who was operating the electric dirt bike was injured. He was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, treated, and released.

The girl was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River, where she was pronounced dead.

What Happened

According to the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, the electric dirt bike was traveling northbound on Sherman Avenue when it failed to stop at the posted stop sign at Moorage Avenue and entered the intersection.

The bike struck the driver's-side door of a Ford F-250 pickup truck, which was traveling westbound on Moorage Avenue.

The driver of the F-250 remained at the scene, had a valid driver's license, and showed no signs of impairment.

Investigation Continues

The crash is being investigated by the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit Vehicular Homicide Squad, Berkeley Township Police Department, and Ocean County Sheriff's Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit.
