Ocean County Man Pleads Guilty After 1,000+ CSAM Files Found
Point Pleasant Borough, N.J. — An Ocean County man has pleaded guilty to possessing child sexual abuse material after investigators say more than 1,000 items were found on electronic devices that were seized from his home.
Last week in Ocean County Superior Court, 74-year-old James Vavra of Point Pleasant Borough entered his plea. At sentencing, the State will seek a 10-year prison term, lifetime parole supervision, and Megan's Law registration.
How the Investigation Started
The investigation began after the New Jersey State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force received a cyber-tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children indicating that someone was uploading child sexual abuse material online.
Investigators traced the activity to an IP address connected to Vavra's Point Pleasant Borough home.
1,000+ Files Found
On October 23rd, 2025, multiple law enforcement agencies executed a search warrant at Vavra's home, and they seized several electronic devices. A forensic examination uncovered more than 1,000 items of child sexual abuse material.
Vavra was taken into custody and transported to Ocean County Jail, where he was later released under New Jersey Bail Reform.
Sentencing is scheduled for August 28th.
