Mount Laurel, NJ, Man Charged in $300K Loan Fraud Scheme
Jackson Township, N.J. — A Burlington County man has been charged in connection with an alleged scheme involving a $300,000 home equity loan and impersonation tied to a Jackson Township victim.
On May 21st, 44-year-old Stephen Intrieri of Mount Laurel was charged with theft by unlawful taking and impersonation.
The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said their investigation revealed that the victim took out a home equity line of credit (HELOC) against his property for $300,000, intending to invest some of the proceeds with Intrieri.
According to officials, Intrieri completed the loan application in the victim's name but utilized his own contact information, thereby allowing Intrieri to have access to the HELOC funds. He then allegedly proceeded to transfer the funds into an E-Trade account, which the victim had no access to. Additionally, it was discovered that Intrieri had been communicating with the victim, purporting to be the mortgage company.
Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact Det. Kyle Richardella with the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office at (732) 929-2027.
The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
