South Jersey Murder Arrest Made 6 Years After Fatal Shooting

Edgewater Park, N.J. — A South Jersey man already sitting in jail on unrelated charges has been charged with a murder that went unsolved for six years after newly received ballistic testing results prompted investigators to reexamine the case.

32-year-old Jevon Mobley of Burlington City was served with the warrant while being held in the Burlington County Jail. He now faces first-degree murder, first-degree conspiracy, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose charges.

2020 Murder, 2026 Arrest

The Burlington County Prosecutor's Office said on the night of June 11th, 2020, Edgewater Park police responded to the Orchard Park apartment complex on Woodlane Road at around 11:15 for a report of a shooting.

There, officers found 27-year-old Damian Hampton of Burlington City lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead approximately an hour later at Virtua Hospital Willingboro.

Authorities said the investigation took a new turn after prosecutors received the results of ballistic evidence testing, prompting investigators to take a fresh look at the case. That review led to the charges against Mobley.

What's Next

A detention hearing is scheduled for this week in Superior Court. The case will be presented to a grand jury for possible indictment.
