A man from Ocean County has been charged with attempted murder in connection to an incident where a woman was strangled in Point Pleasant during the summer of 2022.

Joshua Gunnell was with the Point Pleasant Police Dept. when he was accused over the summer of trying to steal over $200 in groceries at a self-checkout register.

The Point Pleasant Borough police detective who pleaded not guilty to shoplifting at a Walmart store now faces additional charges.

Matthew Marinelli is accused of contacting the student after his employment as a substitute teacher ended, asking the student to deny he made contact with her and to delete the photos and messages.
