Jackson Township Woman Sentenced to 7 Years for Shooting 79-Year-Old

Toms River, N.J. — A Jackson Township woman has been sentenced to seven years in state prison for shooting a 79-year-old man last year.

34-year-old Marian Rojas was sentenced Thursday. Under the No Early Release Act, she must serve at least 85% of her sentence before becoming eligible for parole.

Rojas had pleaded guilty on June 15th. She has been held at the Ocean County Jail since her arrest.

Shot and Fled

The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said on October 24th, 2025, Jackson Township Police responded to a residence on Jackson Pines Road around 9:15 PM for a report of a gunshot victim.

There, cops found a 79-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his shoulder. He was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River, treated for minor injuries, and released.

Investigators determined Rojas had shot the victim and fled the scene. A description of Rojas and her vehicle was broadcast to surrounding agencies. Within the hour, Manchester Township Police stopped a matching vehicle with Rojas behind the wheel. She was taken into custody without incident.

Victim's Forgiveness Shaped the Outcome

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer noted that the 79-year-old victim's desire to show mercy to Rojas was a significant factor in the State's decision to resolve this case in this manner.
