70-year-old Man Indicted for 2020 Fatal Shooting in Atlantic City
70-year-old Maximo Santiago is facing first-degree murder, second-degree possession of a weapon, and second-degree certain persons not to have weapons charges in connection to the death of 32-year-old Marketa E. Thorpe of Atlantic City, according to Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner announced.
Authorities say in the late morning hours of Saturday, September 12th, 2020, Atlantic City Police received a 911 call about a person with a gunshot wound at 1507 Belfield Avenue. Arriving officers found the victim, Marketa Thorpe, and she was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center-City Division where she was pronounced dead. An autopsy was conducted the following day which determined she died from a gunshot wound of the torso and the manner of death was homicide.
Shortly after the shooting, Santiago was apprehended by Atlantic City Police officers. He has been held in the Atlantic County Justice Facility since then.
The public is reminded that all persons charged are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
