Man Stabbed Multiple Times During Late-night Fight in Rio Grande, NJ
Middle Township, N.J. — A Burleigh man is facing charges after authorities said he stabbed another man several times in the back during a fight in Rio Grande late Saturday night.
37-year-old Francis Mikulak is being held at the Cape May County Correctional Facility pending court proceedings.
Argument Turns Violent
According to the Middle Township Police Department, its officers were dispatched to North Railroad Avenue and Satt Boulevard at around 11:20 PM for a reported stabbing.
Authorities arrived to find a 43-year-old Rio Grande man with significant injuries. He was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City for treatment.
Investigators said they determined that Mikulak and the victim, who knew each other, had gotten into an argument that escalated into a physical altercation. During the fight, Mikulak allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim several times in the back before fleeing the scene on a bicycle.
Detectives from the Middle Township Police Department, along with the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office, located Mikulak and took him into custody without incident.
Charges Filed
Mikulak has been charged with second-degree aggravated assault, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and two fourth-degree counts of unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of prohibited weapons.
Authorities say the incident was not random in nature and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
