The campaign of United States Congressman Jeff Van Drew, NJ-R-2, is warning in advance that “fake polls” are coming to New Jersey’s 2nd Congressional District election.

If past is prologue, it’s hard to deny.

For many years, Van Drew, along with New Jersey Senators Vince Polistina and Michael Testa … and, former Congressman Frank LoBiondo have all dealt with polls that showed them losing … or, being within the margin of error with opponents that they went on to defeat by wide margins.

We go through this year in and year out and it's really getting old," said Van Drew's Campaign Manager and Director of Political Affairs Ron Filan. The Democrats start out by claiming Van Drew is vulnerable, because [insert reason here] this year is different and will be unlike anything we've ever seen before. Then comes the Summer when they'll commission a poll which will show their candidate either winning or within striking distance, which they'll then use to raise boatloads of cash, only to lose decisively in November. Get ready folks, it's coming, but even with Congressman Van Drew's record of success, he never takes anything for granted and will be working harder than ever! said Filan.

Specific Examples of Bad Polling

In the Summer of 2020, the Democrats released an internal poll showing Amy Kennedy leading Van Drew by 6%, which was well outside the margin of error.

Van Drew won election by 6 percentage points., defeating both Kennedy and tte $ 12 million spent against him.

Polistina was the victim of a poll showing him trailing significantly in his first New Jersey State Senate General Election. He went in to win comfortably.

Testa dealt with the exact same bad polling in his first General Election when he was reported to result his opponent, yet, Testa won by a large margin.

Van Drew also faced this in 2022, when his opponent, Tim Alexander claimed that he was already within striking distance of Van Drew.

Van Drew defeated Alexander by about 19%

In 2024, Van Drew faced Joe Salerno. In the Summer of 2024, the Salerno campaign released a similar internal poll that showed Van Drew only up single digits.

Van Drew won the election by 17 percentage points.

”We expect the Democrats to follow the same playbook this year, said Filan.
