Mistake As New Jersey Candidate For Governor Trashes Pork Roll
You know that someone is not from Mew Jersey when they call “Pork Roll” — “Taylor Ham.”
But, worse …
Mike Sherrill Called Pork Roll “Gross”
Politics is a funny business. Voters will forgive a lot during a rough and tumble campaign season. However, there are times when things can change “on a dime” for reasons you can’t even imagine.
Is It Pork Roll Or Taylor Ham?
I haven’t heard anyone that is really from New Jersey call Pork Roll by the name Taylor Ham.
Mikie Sherrill, the Democrat Nominee for Governor of New Jersey calls it, “Taylor Ham.”
It’s a real giveaway that she is from somewhere else (which she is) and that Mikie Sherrill transplanted into New Jersey.
Even Worse Than Getting The Name Wrong —Sherrill Called Pork Roll, “Gross”
That’s a big mistake in New Jersey. We like pork roll. It’s not gross at all.
Mikie Sherrill said:
Who eats Pork Roll? I think that’s gross! I’ve had this fight multiple times. Nobody wants Pork Roll, said Sherrill.
Jack Ciattarelli Responds …
On Facebook, Ciattarelli said yesterday …
Hey Mikie. Tell me you're not from Jersey without telling me you're not from Jersey. You know what, don't worry about it. You remind us of it every day in ways big and small, said Ciattarelli.
Pork Roll Has Been Around For 169 Years
John Taylor created it in 1856. That’s 4 years before Abraham Lincoln became President of The United States.
Social Media Comments About Sherrill On Pork Roll
Ciattarelli’s Facebook page generated hundreds of comments about Mikie Sherrill and Pork Roll.
Here are a few of the comments:
- Dante Land write: “Everyone loves "Pork Roll" in Jersey.”
- Elaine Gutowski said, “ She thinks eating pork roll is gross. Who eats pork roll? She sure doesn't know what New Jersey residents like.”
- Bill OHara write, “That’s cause your not from NJ People born and raised in NJ do.”
- Michael Brescio writes, “I love and eat pork roll!”
- Craig S. Smith Didn’t hold back and wrote, “I think you're gross. Every man loves pork roll. That's how much you know about jersey you probably don't like Jersey tomatoes and Jersey corn either.”
- Kevin Wiz write, “How dare she put down our pork roll!”
- Cook Smith wrote, “All right New Jersey …I think this says it all.”
The above is just a small sampling of the many negative comments that Mikie Sherrill’s pork roll comments has generated.
Epilog
Cook Smith’s comment touches on what I mentioned earlier.
Some voters may not care about a United States Naval Academy cheating scandal … or, millions of dollars in stock market trades, while serving in Congress … or, campaign contributions from the Chinese Communist Party.
However, when a candidate trashes pork roll … that just might break through and disqualify a candidate for being inauthentic and unaware of long-standing New Jersey traditions.
