Atlantic County Freeholder Who Mocked Women’s March Apologizes (Days After Declining To)

Atlantic County Freeholder John Carman, that's who.

Days after declining to apologize for posting internet memes mocking Saturday's women's march, Carman posted his apology on the same place he shared the denigrating jokes: his Facebook page.

"I made an error in judgment with a meme [I] thought was amusing and harmless. I was wrong. It is obvious to me that I have hurt many people, men and women with my insensitive post. For this, I am truly sorry," Carman's post on Thursday says.

In one of the posts the Republican had shared, a woman is seen cooking in a kitchen, with a caption asking “Will the woman’s protest be over in time for them to cook dinner?” Another was a Kermit the Frog tea-drinking meme that said: “There must be a large sandwich making class going on in DC today.”

The march, which drew more than 2.9 million to the nation's capital and cities across New Jersey and the country, may be the nation's largest protest ever.

Carman was slammed by political opponents. Nearly three dozen people criticized Carman at a freeholder meeting Tuesday.

But Carman was unrepentant, saying "it was a joke … nothing serious about it, and it doesn’t reflect my sentiments," according to The Press of Atlantic City.

But by Thursday, Carman, who is facing re-election this year, had changed his stance.

"Believe me this was a lesson well learned," Carman said on Facebook. "Please judge me by my words and my actions going forward. Again, my sincere apology to those that were offended."

Many of the comments left in response to his post thanked Carman for apologizing even though they did not think an apology had been needed.
