Ocean County Man Who Drove Over Five Geese in Toms River Indicted

A Brick man who intentionally drove over a family of five geese last year in Toms River has been indicted on five counts of animal cruelty, announced Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer.

Quintin Alec-Manning, 21, of Brick, was indicted on five counts of Animal Cruelty in violation of N.J.S.A. 4:22-17c(1).

On May 29, 2019, Toms River Police began an investigation after being notified that a motor vehicle deliberately struck a family of five geese, causing their death in the parking lot of the Indian Head Plaza.

This came just days after a report of Canadian Geese being viciously attacked by a family near a retention pond in Lakewood, according to an eyewitness, earlier that month although no connection was found.

Ocean County Scanner News released a photo of the Toms River attack that is very graphic and not for the faint of heart.

During the investigation, Toms River Police spoke with multiple business owners and patrons who provided information leading to identifying the suspect Alec-Manning who was arrested two days later and charged with five counts of third degree animal cruelty, one charge for each deceased goose.

Canada geese, the most common type found in New Jersey, are protected by state and federal law. The geese, along with their nests and eggs, cannot be handled, relocated, or otherwise disturbed without a permit from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
