One Dead, One Injured in Boating Incident Off Ocean City
One person has died and another person was rushed to an area hospital following a boating incident off of Ocean City Wednesday afternoon.
NJ.com reports authorities responded to a report of an abandoned vessel around noon Wednesday on the beach near Seacliff Road.
A statement from the Coast Guard published by NJ.com says a boat was discovered beached on the shore where the ocean meets Great Egg Inlet.
A Coast Guard helicopter crew spotted the missing boaters in the water. One person was reported to be unresponsive while the other was rushed to an area hospital.
A 59-year-old man died in the incident while a 73-year-old man was taken to Shore Memorial Hosptial, according to WPVI-TV.
NJ.com reports state troopers recovered video showing the pair leaving Somers Point Marina that morning.
A spokesperson for the New Jersey State Police told OCNJdaily.com, "The case is an active and open investigation at this time."
