
Packed House in Atlantic City Cheers NJ Boxers to Victory
When boxing returned to the Tropicana Showroom in Atlantic City after a seven-year hiatus, the vision that Boxing Promoter Larry Goldberg had was to bring exciting fight cards with local fighters.
Originally from Margate, the man behind Boxing Insider Promotions hosted his fourth event inside Tropicana on Saturday, March 22nd and attendance for these boxing events has grown each time.
Thanks to local support and a fight card stacked with undefeated New Jersey Boxers, the latest event at the Tropicana Showroom set a new standard for attendance for Boxing in Atlantic City.
Record Turnout to See NJ Fighters Stay Undefeated on Saturday Night
All five New Jersey Boxers won and each fight energized a big crowd at the Tropicana Atlantic City Showroom who were treated to an action-packed fight card from the first bell to the final Knockout.
Sources tell 973 ESPN that there was over 1,400 people in attendance for Boxing Insider Promotions event on Saturday Night. Boxing Insider Promotions four boxing events in the last 10 months have attracted the largest crowds for a boxing event inside Tropicana Atlantic City since 2011.
On that fight card 14 years ago, Atlantic City Boxer Shamone "The Truth" Alvarez was on the fight card and he was also in attendance on Saturday Night. Alvarez won the WBO NABO Welterweight Title in 2007 and he was cheering on the South Jersey Fighters at Tropicana Atlantic City.
This is the second straight weekend an Atlantic City event on Saturday Night drew a big crowd. At the MAAC Men's Basketball Tournament Finals, the 730 pm Tip-off featured a loud and energized crowd at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall.
Details About South Jersey Fighters Who Shined At Tropicana Showroom
After Franklin Township resident Cali Box extended his undefeated record to 5-0 in his Professional Career, the energized Tropicana Showroom crowd was treated to the much-anticipated debut of Pleasantville High School Graduate Julio Sanchez III.
With his father and former Boxer, Julio Sanchez Jr, in his corner, Sanchez III overcame a slow start in the first round to cruise to his first professional victory. Sanchez III found his range and offensive attack in the second and third rounds to the delight of the crowd in attendance. After the fight, Julio the father carried his son, Julio III, around the ring as the men celebrated the moment together.
But the night was not done for Boxer-turned-Coach Julio Sanchez Jr because he had another fighter in action on Saturday Night. The evolution of Absegami High School Graduate Bruce Seldon Jr. was on full display inside the Tropicana Showroom ring.
Since his pro debut just a year ago, Seldon Jr. has evolved from a raw powerhouse into a well-conditioned Boxer who starting to merge the mental and physical elements of the sport. After knocking down his opponent with a well-timed straight strike, Bruce calmly went to the corner to wait for his opponent to recover.
The man nicknamed "Atlantic City Express 2.0" showed confidence and composure as he quickly dispatched his opponent Gabriel Costa. The Championship Winning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner was no match for Bruce Seldon Jr's power as body shots ended the fight with "2.0" staying undefeated.
The Main Event of the night was Atlantic City's Justin Figueroa back in action. "Mr. Atlantic City" has been a part of every Boxing Insider Promotions card since Larry Goldberg brought boxing back to the Tropicana Showroom and Figueroa did not disappoint the over 1,400 people in attendance.
"Just In Time" Figueroa extended his undefeated record to 12-0 thanks to a methodical performance. Figueroa, who have grown into a more calculated Boxer, measured up his opponent and finished the fight with an explosive combination of right-to-left punches to win by Knockout.
Boxing Insider Promotions' Larry Goldberg tells 973 ESPN that South Jersey boxing fans can expect more action-packed fight cards in the coming months inside the Tropicana Showroom in Atlantic City. Goldberg hosted three professional boxing showcase events in 2024 along with an Amateur Show for the Atlantic City Police Athletic League (PAL).
Boxing Insider Promotions helped the Atlantic City PAL receive a $65,000 state grant for the youth boxing program which has produced numerous Professional Boxers over the decades.
Rising stars in the professional boxing world are not the only South Jersey athletes with opportunities to showcase their skills on the biggest stage. The National Football League has seen these South Jersey High School Graduates play games in the NFL:
