There was a lot of criticism in the run-up to this NFL season.

Did the Philadelphia Eagles overpay for running back Saquon Barkley?

The Eagles are paying Barkley $ 37.75 million over the next 3 years.

In addition to being an elite NFL running back, Barkley is also a talented receiver. Both were on display in the season opener, including an 18-yard touchdown reception along the left sideline.

Barkley’s former team, the New York Giants threw a lot of cold water on Barkley joining the Eagles.

There has been a long-time tradition of a player not leaving one team for another team within the same division.

The Eagles and Giants are fellow rivals in the National Football Conference, Eastern Division. By league rule and schedule, they face each other twice each season.

The Giants trolled the Eagles prior to their opening season game in Brazil versus the Green Bay Packers.

The New York Giants 366 wrote on social media that:

Saquon Barkley is an average at best running back who the Eagles grossly overpaid. He will be a MASSIVE disappointment for them this season!

Embedded in the post is this comment from @Dan366Sports:

“Tonight is the night that #Eagles fans realize that @Saquon is the most overrated running back in NFL history who refuses to get tough yards and won't make a significant difference in the season as a whole.”

All of this seems like a whole lot of sour grapes and this prognostication has already not aged well.

Barkley put together a stellar first game as a Philadelphia Eagle with:

  • 24 carries
  • 132 total yards
  • 3 touchdowns

Simply put, the Eagles would not have won the season opener without Barkley.

It’s only one game, however, the investment in Saquon Barkley has already offered an immediate return on the investment.

Below, we have put together a fun photo gallery with descriptions of some of the sights that you will see during your time spent at the upcoming “Scullville Terror at the Junkyard,” Hayride and Maze, which is presented by the fine men and women of Scullville Volunteer Fire Company.

This is followed by a nice photo gallery of things to do in the area after Labor Day.
