Philadelphia Housing Authority Helps, While Atlantic City Hurts
The Philadelphia Housing Authority is giving out 1,600 turkeys today, Monday, November 25, 2024 in advance of Thanksgiving Day this Thursday.
Providing a Turkey might seem like a small thing… But, at least it shows that they care about their public housing residents.
This Philadelphia turkey giveaway was first reported by 6abc.
By comparison, in recent weeks, the Atlantic City Housing Authority has been advising certain public housing residents to get out of their homes … when they have no where else to go.
This has brought great stress to both the old and young alike, who are directly affected.
Former Atlantic City Housing Authority Executive Director Matt Doherty has called his former agency “The largest slumlord in Atlantic City.”
Doherty has also publicly called it “corrupt.”
Most recently, Doherty has raised his concerns about the more than $ 3 million which has been added to an HVAC repair… that occurred without a public bidding process.
Doherty shared that substantially more money will be spent to fix an old and uncertain system… Rather than provide the public housing residence with a decentralized equipment approach… That would have given the residents both heat and hot water on a demand basis.
Currently, these residents do not have air conditioning. What an upgrade the Doherty plan would have been for these chronically under-served public housing residents.
Some residents of the Stanley Holmes Village Apartments have been without heat and hot water for more than two years. Many of them have been without proper cooking facilities.
Additionally, many of these residents are living in apartments with rodent and insect infestation.
United States Congressman Jeff Van Drew, R-NJ-2 has been doing everything humanly possible to bring much needed relief to these public housing residents.
Van Drew has met with multiple past and present Secretaries of the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development to shine the light of truth on the many problems that have existed under the mismanagement of the Atlantic City Housing Authority.
While the Philadelphia Housing Authority gives away turkeys today… The Atlantic City Housing Authority is giving away eviction notices.
