Phillies Recall Darick Hall, Option Kody Clemens to Triple-A
The Philadelphia Phillies made a move prior to the start of their series finale with the Washington Nationals on Sunday, recalling Darick Hall from Triple-A Lehigh.
To make room for Hall on the 26-man roster, the team optioned Kody Clemens to Lehigh.
It's a big picture move for the team. Clemens had become a popular role player, but the Phillies realize Hall has a higher ceiling, opting to add his power to the lineup over Clemens.
Hall flashed the ability to hit the ball over the fence, doing it nine times in 41 games last season, while Clemens has just four round-trippers in 47 games this season.
Hall doesn't solve all the Phillies problems. He is a left-handed bat and plays just one position, first base.
What will the team do with him once Bryce Harper begins playing first base?
The hope is to get Kyle Schwarber off his feet more, as the designated hitter, leaving Hall without a spot.
But for now, he's at first base, hitting seventh against the Nationals and Clemens is back a Tripe-A.
