A popular face in Philadelphia television has retired.

WPVI-TV (6ABC)’s general assignment reporter, John Rawlins, announced that he has retired from the station.

The veteran reporter announced his retirement on Twitter, saying in part:
“For 38 yrs I have had a terrific, challenging & rewarding job. My goal to produce work that was factual, fair & concise.”

Rawlins, who had worked at the station since April, 1981, announced that September 30 was his last day with the station.

The station’s general manager, Bernie Prazenica, praised John for his work at the station in a statement he issued on Monday.

“For 38 years, John set the standard for professionalism in the Philadelphia news business. His colleagues at Action News will remember him both for his outstanding skills as a field reporter, but also as one of the kindest individuals in the industry. We wish him all the best in his retirement,” Prazenica said.
