Prosecutor: Middle Twp., NJ, man had over 1,000 child porn files
A Middle Township man has been arrested and is facing child porn-related charges.
The Cape May County Prosecutor's Office says 24-year-old Anthony Gilbert of Whitesboro is facing second-degree charges of possession of child sexual abuse material (>1000 images) and distribution of child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
Authorities say an investigation stemmed from a National Center for Missing and Exploited Children tip that revealed an unidentified person, later determined to be Gilbert, allegedly downloaded and shared various child porn images.
On July 9th, officials executed a search warrant at his home, and multiple cellular devices were seized, which allegedly contained illicit images and videos.
Gilbert turned himself in to authorities and he was formally charged late last month. He was last reported to be in the Cape May County Correctional Facility pending court proceedings.
Those convicted of second-degree crimes in New Jersey face five to ten years in state prison.
Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland and Middle Township Police Chief Tracey Super urge citizens of Cape May County to report any information regarding child exploitation by calling (609) 465-1135.
The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
