Elderly Couple Assaulted in their Home; South Jersey Cops Search for Suspect
Cops in Burlington County are asking for your help tracking down a man wanted for allegedly breaking into his elderly neighbors’ home, assaulting them, and then stealing their car.
Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina says 44-year-old Rhys Lershe of the 100 block of Winstead Drive in Westampton Township is currently wanted by police.
Authorities say an investigation began after a couple called police at around 12:30 early Wednesday and reported an assault. It was determined that "Lershe entered their residence through a bedroom window and demanded the keys to their 2014 black Kia Optima. He then assaulted the couple before leaving in the car. The victims were transported to Cooper University Hospital in Camden and admitted for treatment."
The license plate of the stolen vehicle, which is registered in New Jersey, is LJH 89D. Anyone who spots it or has information on Lershe’s whereabouts is asked to call 911 or the Westampton Township Police Department at (609) 267-8300.
