‘Riverdale’ Stops Production Following Luke Perry’s Death
Riverdale has shut down production after news of Luke Perry's death.
The beloved actor passed away on Monday morning (Mar. 4) at the age of 52 after suffering from a massive stroke last week. In the wake of his devastating death, Variety reports the series has stopped production for the day to presumably allow the cast and crew time to grieve. Warner Bros. and The CW also issued a heartfelt tribute to Perry, who played Fred Andrews, the father of Archie Andrews, for three seasons on the show.
“We are deeply saddened to learn today about the passing of Luke Perry. A beloved member of the Riverdale, Warner Bros. and CW family,” the show’s executive producers Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Jon Goldwater said in a joint statement. “Luke was everything you would hope he would be: an incredibly caring, consummate professional with a giant heart, and a true friend to all. A father figure and mentor to the show’s young cast, Luke was incredibly generous, and he infused the set with love and kindness. Our thoughts are with Luke’s family during this most difficult time.”
The Riverdale writing team released a statement, too, writing, “Luke Perry... you were a joyful and vibrant soul. You will be missed but most certainly your legacy will be remembered forever. Rest in love and peace, friend.”
