Waterford Township, NJ, Bear Spray Incident Leads to Arrest

Waterford Township, N.J. — A man who allegedly sprayed two people with bear spray during a dispute and then hid from police under a deck was arrested Tuesday afternoon in Camden County.

David Walker was taken into custody without incident after officers located him concealed beneath the deck of a home on the 2100 block of Cooper Road.

He also had an active warrant at the time of his arrest and was remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility.

Bear Spray, K-9 Track, and a Deck

Waterford Township Police said they were called to the area of Front Street and Cooper Road around 4:15 PM Tuesday for a report of a fight.

At the scene, officers found a man and a woman who had been sprayed with bear spray.

Witnesses directed officers toward a nearby home where a suspect in the incident may have been hiding.

A K-9 track led police to Walker, who was found hiding under a deck.

Investigators determined Walker and the victims knew each other and that the confrontation had started in a wooded area near C.W. Haines Blvd. The dispute reportedly stemmed from an incident in Atlantic County several months prior.

Charges

Walker was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, and criminal trespass.

The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
